Doomerization vs Stoicism

What is Doomerization/Doomerism?

Well it is not for us to define anymore. We all know why we are here. Everyday we see this sense of pessimism and despair when we observe this modern society that we live in. This philosophy of Doomerism is a worldwide concept now. This world seems to be irreparably broken and it seems that nothing can be done to change this absurd existence. It feels so negative and this lack of purpose and spiritual turmoil makes it even worse. Where did we go wrong?

Stoicism feels like a refuge for many during these tough times. The ancient wisdom of Marcus Aurelius still stands to this day. Stoicism offers a refreshing shelter where we can harbor our selves for the days ahead. Personal responsibility, self-discipline and the focus on present moment. This is the gist of stoicism. We must embrace stoicism to combat the growing doomerism among us(sus).

Doomerization offers a comfort in a way and we may find ourselves finding solace from this society. However in the longer term it will destroy your life. To find purpose in your life, you must begin.

But why stoicism?

Well because the key principle of Stoicism is the concept of “amor fati”, or “love of fate”.

What does that mean?

This concept means that everything that happens in life, good or bad is a necessary part of the natural order of things.

That sounds so comforting, doesn’t it? When you understand that everything good or bad is all part of nature. The white and black in Yin-Yang is all part of the same circle of life and nature. Rather than focusing and lamenting in one’s fate or trying to change the past, you must focus on accepting your circumstances and making the most out of them.

This can bring peace and it can prove to be a powerful thought process while dealing with the incoming doomer thoughts arising from setbacks. It helps you to be more resilient and be strong internally.

But what next?

I’ll tell you, its self-discipline. The concept of true happiness that comes not from external circumstances, but from stoic virtues such as wisdom, courage, and self control. Focus on these qualities and you can develop a sense of purpose and direction in life. To be disciplined is to till the land that you have been given from birth. This will give you strength when you feel hopeless and in despair. You can achieve a sense of control over your life with discipline.

Stoicism also emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment. Rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, Stoics focus on the here and now. By embracing the present moment and finding joy and meaning in everyday experiences, individuals can cultivate a sense of gratitude and contentment that can help counteract feelings of despair and pessimism.

Doomerism is a pervasive and damaging worldview that can rob individuals of their sense of agency and purpose in life. However, by practicing Stoicism, individuals can combat this negativity and find meaning and fulfillment in even the most challenging circumstances. By embracing personal responsibility, self-discipline, and a focus on the present moment, Stoics can cultivate resilience, inner strength, and a sense of purpose that can help them overcome the most difficult of challenges.
